There’s something about America that just seems to breed celebrity personalities. And while many of these celebrities go on to do great things, some of them choose to embarrass themselves or instead do some really wacky stuff.
In this blog post, we’ll take a look at 4 American celebrity personalities who have made a clown out of Uganda’s president Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Let’s get started!
About President Museveni and American Celebrities.
In the last four years, a number of American celebrities have paid visits to Uganda, including Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2018, Professor Sarfaraz Niazi in March 2020 during the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, and Senegal-American singer Akon in 2021 with his wife Tomeka Thiam.
The latest American celebrity to visit Uganda is award-winning actor Terrence Howard with his wife. All of these celebrities met Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, to whom they pledged elusive development projects for the country.
1. Kanye West and the Jurassic Park of sorts, turning Uganda into a Wakanda.

Kanye West is one of the most successful and controversial rappers of all time. He first rose to fame in the early 2000s, when he produced several hit singles for other artists.
However, it was his own debut album, The College Dropout, that catapulted him to superstardom. Since then, West has released a string of critically acclaimed albums and has won 21 Grammy Awards.
He is also known for his outspoken personality and frequent clashes with the media. In recent years, West has been increasingly involved in fashion design and has launched his own clothing line.
After years of making headlines for his controversial behavior, Kanye West finally seemed to be settling down when he married Kim Kardashian in 2014.
However, it appears that the rapper may be back to his old ways. Kim Kardashian is a single woman once again after nearly eight years married to Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
The reality star also officially and legally dropped “West” from her last name.
West Meets President Museveni.

In October 2018, American Superstar Kanye west and then wife Kim Kardashian payed a courtesy visit to president Museveni. West and his wife Kim were then Vacationing and also recording New Music at the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
During the visit, Kanye appeared wearing a hoodie something that sent Ugandan social media users into a frenzy.
Just a few days before West’s visit, President Museveni had cracked down on hoodies siting the fact that many criminal elements were using hoodies to disguise their identities while committing crime.
Special emphasis was placed on the boda boda (motorcycle taxis) cyclists as most crimes were committed by hooded criminals on motorcycles.
Many Ugandan Netizens expected the president to inform Kanye west that hoodies were not allowed in Uganda…but…yippee, that didn’t happen….. Kanye was an exception.

Also during the visit, Kanye west gifted President Museveni a pair of white Yeezy trainers autographed by him and his then wife Kim. An excited Museveni who did not know the specific use of the shoes asked if the trainers were used for playing football and Ye had to explain that they are best for the gym.
The “Jurassic Park” and “Wakanda”
Kanye further went ahead to promise support for Uganda’s tourism sector promising to build a Jurassic park of sorts in Uganda. Yes and i mean it, a Jurassic park “of sorts”.
“This is not going to be just a photo opportunity, this is going to be like Jurassic Park,” he began. “When I saw the safari, I was thinking about this is how all zoos should be.”
A confused Museveni asked What Jurassic Park is and Kanye had to explain making reference to the 1993 film directed by Steven Spielberg.
The president seemed amused by the idea and even said that he could help with acquiring land for the project.
To date, it is yet unclear when construction on the park will begin or how much it will cost. However, it seemed that Kanye West was serious about bringing a little bit of Hollywood to Uganda.
And the comes turning Uganda into a movie, West made another movie reference during his conversation. The rapper said he wants the country to thrive like Black Panther’s Wakanda.
“Of course, there’s tourism,” he began. “I would like to know about other industries that you would like to build and have a discussion about what would make the entire country… to build Wakanda, to be the most thriving.”
Aside from talking about safaris and plans for tourism, West revealed that he wants to expand his family with Kim. When asked by the President how many children he has, Kanye revealed that he has three but wants seven with then wife Kim Kardashian.
The priceless moment was Kim’s surprised face. “I would not like to have seven,” Kim laughs.

To date, Kanye has since separated with Kim and there is no sign at all whatsoever of the once envisaged Jurassic Park, just that little bit of Hollywood in Uganda.
2. Sarfaraz Niazi and the two weeks release of the COVID treatment that never materialized.

Sarfaraz K. Niazi, PhD, is an adjunct professor of biopharmaceutical sciences at the University of Illinois and the University of Houston, and founder of biosimilars companies Karyo Biologics and Adello Biologics. He also founded the biosimilar advisory company PharmSci.
Professor Sarfaraz Niazi Visits Uganda.
In mid March 2020, Uganda’s then speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga sparked controversy with a claim that a local pharmaceutical company was about to manufacture an alleged “cure” for the coronavirus.
The then Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga said that a local pharmaceutical company will start producing a cure for the coronavirus in two weeks’ time.
Her statement came after a meeting with Professor Sarfaraz Niazi, a scientist from the University of Illinois in the United States, and the proprietors of Dei Biopharma Uganda Limited represented by one Mathias Magoola a biochemist and “businessman”.
“A professor who manufactured the treatment for coronavirus in the U.S., and he has donated the patent to Uganda and within a fortnight, the treatment will be made here,” Kadaga said. “
“It will be available on the market here, in Uganda. It’s being made by a company called Dei International. Not that we should be relaxed, but there’s hope,” Kadaga further said.

Professor Sarfaraz Niazi, a scientist from the University of Illinois in the United States together with a witty Busoga businessman Mathias Magoola through the facilitation of Speaker Kadaga met with and assured president Museveni that the treatment could cure Corona Virus and other Viruses.
This convinced president Museveni who was convinced that even after the COVID pandemic, the “treatment” would be used to cure other viral diseases.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Magoola: “It’s only this product in the world that kills the virus, including SARS.”
Museveni: “And the economics I think will be that, because this coronavirus will be over, the epidemic will be over, but then there will be other viruses, so that chemical should be able to kill the others.
Magoola: “Including bacteria.”
Museveni: “Because if you only make it for the Corona, then what happens when?”
Magoola: “When Corona is gone.”
Museveni: “Yes, but if it can kill others.”
Niazi: “No, it can kill all viruses.”
All this was happening at a time when the Corona virus was a new ongoing issue and no country, not even those that are more scientifically advanced like the US and let alone even the World health organization and the Centre for disease control had any confirmed headway in terms of treatment for the virus.
Well, here was an American professor who wanted to produce the treatment in Uganda in two weeks time at a time when his own home country the US was experiencing many deaths as a result of the Corona Virus yet Uganda then had no little or no fatalities.
Many Ugandans questioned the professor’s motivation to produce the treatment in Uganda when his own home country was at the time experiencing so many COVID 19 related deaths.

Uganda’s health minister was quick to come out and warn against the spread of false information about the pandemic.
Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, who had been working closely with the World Health Organization and U.S. Centers for Disease Control, warned this is false information.
Aceng said research on COVID-19 was still ongoing – and she noted the WHO was yet to endorse any treatment for the coronavirus.
“There’s no research that has been approved by WHO clearly saying, ‘let the countries implement this.’ Until WHO has said, ‘this is the way to go,’ we still know that the treatment for COVID is supportive treatment, lots of fluids and analgesics for those who are in pain,” Aceng said. “
For those who are in the hospital with the severe form, we want to rehydrate them, give them oxygen where it is necessary and treat pneumonia, where there’s pneumonia.”
Aceng also encouraged Ugandans to continue washing their hands with soap and water or hand sanitizers to prevent the spread of the virus.
Dr. Sarfaraz Niazi’s COVID 19 “Treatment” that was to be produced in two weeks time has to date never materialized.
3. Akon and the elusive futuristic Akon city.

Akon is a Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, record producer, businessman, and philanthropist. He rose to prominence in the mid-2000s with his debut album Trouble, followed by a string of successful singles, including “Lonely,” “Smack That,” and “I Wanna Love You.”
Akon has since released five studio albums and has founded two businesses: Konvict Muzik and Konfidence Foundation. He has also been nominated for numerous awards, including Grammy Awards and American Music Awards.
In addition to his musical career, Akon is also actively involved in philanthropic work. He has founded several charitable organizations, including Akon Lighting Africa and Konfidence Foundation.
Through these organizations, he has helped to provide access to clean water, solar power, and education to millions of people in Africa.
Akon Meets President Museveni.
In April 2021, President Yoweri Museveni met with Senegalese-American musician Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam, popularly known as Akon and his wife Ms. Rozina Negusei Thiam.
The couple met Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni at their country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura district.
“Senegalese-American musician Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam, popularly known as @Akon , and his wife Ms. Rozina Negusei on arrival in Rwakitura. We are looking forward to a wonderful discussion with the couple,” President Museveni said in a tweet.
In another tweet, president Museveni explained that the music icon and his wife were seeking business opportunities in Uganda.

“Mr. Aliaune Thiam (@Akon ) and his wife, come to Uganda in search of business opportunities in a number of sectors like energy, tourism, and infrastructure development. I am happy to engage in such a discussion that will uplift our people and Africa at large,” the president noted.
Akon Futuristic city.

Part of the discussion that Akon discussed with president Museveni was the construction of the Akon city in Uganda. Akon city apparently is a futuristic city that would operate using Akon’s own crypto currency called Akoin.
Construction of Akon City Uganda was scheduled to complete in 2036, and had the backing of the Ugandan government, which announced that it has allotted one square mile of land for Akon City project.

Akon City in Uganda was to operate using Akoin crypto currency and use a ‘smart cities’ approach, a combination of the internet of things (IoT) devices, software solutions, user interfaces (UI), and communication networks.

Akon City Uganda was expected to feature futuristic shopping malls, stadiums and recreational facilities like its sister city Akon city in Senegal.
With Akon city in his native country Senegal on hold, it only remains to be seen if Akon city Uganda will actually see the light of the day.
4. Terrence Howard and the Geometry of hydrogen.

Terrence Howard is an American actor who has appeared in a number of films and television shows. He is perhaps best known for his role in the 2005 film Hustle & Flow, for which he received an Academy Award nomination.
Howard has also appeared in such films as Crash, The Great Debaters, and Prisoners. On television, he has starred in the series Empire and Wayward Pines.
In addition to his acting career, Howard is also a musician and has released several albums. He has been married three times and has five children.
Terrence Howard meets president Museveni.

American actor Terrence Howard has created a stir after meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni during his visit to the country.
During an address, Howard claimed that he had been able to identify the grand unified field equation that scientists have been searching for and put it into geometry.
The statement was made as Uganda was seeking investment from historical diasporas in a drive led by Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi.
Howard’s visit comes as part of this effort. The actor, best known for his role as Luscious Lyon on the television series Empire, was invited to the country by Frank Tumwebaze, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries.
Howard said that from a young age his passion had been in chemical engineering, and not acting as was known in most parts of the globe, which had spurred him on to devise a new technology powered by hydrogen.
He now had the opportunity to address Museveni and try to convince the Head of State to invest in it as it had the potential to augment Uganda’s travel and aviation sector.
“I was able to define the grand unified field equation and put it into geometry and then with that geometry I was able to put props on that. We have invented a new form of flight that I would like to bring here to Uganda to replace the drones, helicopters and planes. We have all the funding necessary what we need is just a ground in which to build this,” he said in his address.
Initially, president Museveni had shown interest in Howard’s pitch but he appeared to get side tracked as soon as the movie star begun getting into specifics.
“And this is the geometry of hydrogen, this is the proton itself so any bond that hydrogen can make, our lynch pins are able to make so we are talking about unlimited bonding, unlimited predictable structures, super symmetry, and the lynch pins are now able to behave like a swarm, as a colony that can defend a nation,” said Howard.
“Such a colony can harvest food, it can remove plastics from the ocean and it can give Ugandans an opportunity to spread this and to sell these products throughout the world so that we are no longer just selling cultural products and pieces from the land. We can now sell and take center stage with technology but the main purpose is to defend the sovereignty of Uganda.” The technology would apparently defend Uganda without a single soldier loosing their life trying to defend the nation.

President Museveni would later tweet about the meeting with Terrence Howard saying they had a fruitful discussion.
Howards statements attracted a backlash from Ugandans on social media who wondered why Howard wanted to bring such a wonderful technology to Uganda and yet the US would be very much interested in the same. The whole address turned out to be one big joke as its content did not make any rational sense whatsoever.
The bottom line!.
These four celebrity personalities should have been more sincere with themselves before promising president Museveni things that never came to pass. They not only made a clown out of the president, but they also let down the Ugandan people.
From Kanye West and the “Jurassic Park” of sorts, to Professor Sarfaraz Niazi and the never coming two weeks COVID treatment, down to Akon’s elusive Akon Futuristic city and lately Terrence Howard and the Geometry of hydrogen, these celebrities made a complete Joke of Uganda’s President.
Let’s hope that these celebrities will rethink their strategies and do something better and more tangible in the future.
