In Uganda, it’s not uncommon for senior citizens to say one thing and then do the opposite later on, as long as it’s convenient for them.
They might criticize something only to later turn around and become exactly what they demonized. In this blogpost, we will examine 10 Ugandans who have changed their positions to suit their own personal needs over time.
Uganda In brief.

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya to the east, Tanzania to the south, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda to the west, and South Sudan to the north.
Uganda has a varied landscape, including lush green hills, lake regions, and dry savannah. The country’s history is marked by periods of conflict and instability, as well as moments of progress and peace.
Uganda was colonized by the British in the late 1800s. In 1962, Uganda attained independence from Britain.
The capital city of Kampala is located in the south-central part of the country. Uganda is home to a diverse range of cultures and ethnic groups.
The majority of the population is Christian, but there are also large Muslim and Hindu populations. The government of Uganda is a presidential republic.
President Yoweri Museveni has been in power since 1986.
The 10 Ugandans who would violently fight each other if they met.
Now that you have a brief understanding of Uganda’s history, let us now Zero in and look at the 10 Ugandans who would violently fight each other if they met.

1. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of 1986 VS Mzee Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of today.

”Nobody is to think that what is happening today, what has been happening in the last few days is a mere change of guards,” said Mr.
Museveni, 40 years old, who is the ninth head of state since this East African nation gained independence from Britain in 1962.
”This is not a mere change of guards. I think this is a fundamental change in the politics of our government.”
”Any individual, any group or person who threatens the security of our people must be smashed without mercy,” Mr. Museveni said. ”
The people of Uganda should only die from natural causes which are not under our control,” he said, ”but not from fellow human beings.”
“The problem of Africa in general and Uganda in particular is not the people but leaders who want to overstay in power.”

All the above are quotes from the then Young president Museveni in 1986.
Indeed this has turned out to be a fundamental change in the sense that President Museveni’s reign as president has lasted a solid 36 years and is still going strong.
Shortly after Museveni took power in 1986, ending years of bloodshed and chaos, the young president had complained about African leaders who “overstayed” their welcome.
But now 36 years later, Museveni has joined the ranks of those he once criticized, winning a sixth term in office in the January 2021 elections.
Many people have been kidnapped by unidentified armed in number less vehicles popularly known as drones only to be discovered dead while others are dropped by the roadside or released from illegal ungazetted detention centers bearing serious torture marks.
Many youths are today rotting in detention centers for donning the famous people power red beret which the army has since gazzeted as a military store while regime supporters like Bassaja Mivule, Andrew Mwenda etc freely don full military uniforms and others even parade fire arms but are moving around scot free. Many things happening in Uganda today cannot be differentiated from the pre – 1986 era.
Its against such background that we verily believe that if the youthful Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of 1986 met with Mzee Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of today, a fierce battle would ensue and just like the proverbial fight of the elephants, the grass would surely suffer.
2. Norbert Mao the fierce Museveni critic of the 1990’s and early 2000’s VS Norbert Mao Museveni’s Minister for Justice and constitutional affairs and DP-NRM annex Party President.

Norbert Mao, a fire brand Ugandan political activist and lawyer has been president of the Democratic Party since 2010.
He is a three time presidential candidate and he served as the Local Council 5 chairman for Gulu District and Member of Parliament for Gulu Municipality from 1996 to 2006.
Mao also served as the guild president of Makerere University from the year 1990 to 1991 after defeating the late col Nobel Mayombo in a hotly contested guild campaign.

Mao, a great orator has been a fierce critic of Museveni’s government since his university days and was seen by many as a future president of Uganda.
In later years, many of his party members as well as members of the public and other political players have been accusing him of being a mole and working for Museveni.
Their allegations were proved somehow right when on July 20, 2020, Mao signed an apparent cooperation agreement between DP and NRM and on 21 July 2022, he was appointed minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs in the Ugandan government by Yoweri Museveni, the president of the Republic of Uganda someone whom he had previously sworn never to work with.
Well, in this life, everything is possible after all what did you expect Mao to do when he saw no light at the end of the tunnel? Don’t you think if Norbert Mao the fierce Museveni critic met Norbert Mao Museveni’s justice minister there would be a bloody fight? The answer is most definitely yes!.
3. Jimmy Akena the UPC party president VS Jimmy Akena the UPC-NRM annex party president.

Jimmy Akena Obote is the UPC Party president and son of Milton Obote, the two-time former Prime Minister and President of Uganda.
Akena’s Father Milton Obote (RIP) who has previously described President Museveni as a pathological liar must be wining in his grave deep in Akokoro village in Apac district seeing his son working closely with his nemesis President Museveni.
A true son of his father, Jimmy Akena previously criticized president Museveni only to somehow go mute. He has recently denied that the UPC Party has anything to do with Museveni’s NRM though those who have the ability to read between the lines can clearly see what is happening.
Probably as a camouflage, Akena chose not to get directly involved but instead chose to front his wife Betty Among.

In a surprise move following the 20 February 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, President Yoweri Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement political party, named Betty Amongi , Jimmy Akena’s wife Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, despite her affiliation to the opposition Uganda People’s Congress.
In a cabinet reshuffle on 14 December 2019, she was named cabinet minister of Kampala Capital City, switching dockets with Beti Kamya-Turwomwe, who took over at Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
In June 2021, Amongi was appointed Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development in the new cabinet.
Tony Akaki the eldest son of former president Milton Obote and an elder brother to Jimmy Akena has since said that betty Amongi is a Mole deployed by president Museveni’s NRM to destroy the legacy of the Obote family as well as that of the Uganda peoples congress.
Against such background, don’t you think there will be a bloody war if Jimmy Akena, the dread locked Rasta and true son of his father Dr. Apollo Milton Obote of Akokoro Apac district and formerly of Lusaka Zambia met with Jimmy Akena the president of the UPC- NRM annex party? The answer is definitely yes.
4. Andrew Mwenda the firebrand Journalist VS Andrew Mwenda the colonel general.

Andrew Mujuni Mwenda a firebrand journalist of print , radio and television was a fierce critique of the Museveni Government.
While working for Nation media groups Monitor publications in Namuwongo where he worked for both the print (daily Monitor) as well as the radio (93.3kfm), Andrew Mwenda was no stranger to trouble for his negative utterences towards the Museveni regime and this earned him a series of arrests and police summons and court appearences.
Andrew Mwenda since moved on to start his own print bi-monthly news magazine called the Independent.
However, because of his negative stunt towards the regime, Andrew Mwenda’s independent Magazine was starved of government adverts which was a key source of revenue for any print media.
Andrew Mwenda has since changed his stance and now acts as a Pseudo PR for president Museveni’s regime with well calculated jibes at Key opposition players and laser guided defenses on key issues that project the regime in bad light.

Andrew Mwenda has of late become one of the key promoters of what has been dubbed the Muhoozi project, a project that intends to see the first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba replace his father Gen Museveni. Andrew Mwenda has since taken on the pseudo rank of Colonel general.
Its against such background that we verily believe that if Andrew Mwenda the firebrand radio host at 933KFM met with Andrew Mwenda the colonel general, the grass will definitely suffer as this will be a battle of two elephants.
5. Chris Obore the Revolutionary Journalist VS Chris Obore the parliamentary director of communications.

Another fierce critique of the NRM regime , Chris Obore was known to oppose anything that the Museveni regime did and rigorously advocated for the rights of journalists.
However, following his appointment to the position of director communications in the parliament of Uganda, Chris Obore became more catholic than the pope.
He began to speak like he was more NRM than the party’s historicals. His fellow journalists did not survive his wrath either with Obore deciding to raise the minimum academic requirement for parliamentary reporters to a bachelors degree.
This saw many Journalists affected including the then evergreen Agnes Nandutu of NTV. As Karma would have it, Nandutu went on to contest and won a parliamentary seat and was appointed minister for Karamoja affairs probably a more senior position than Obore’s.

Chris Obore went through some turbulence and was dropped from the position only to bounce back following the down fall of the former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
6. Anita Among Annett the FDC stalwart vs Anita Among Annett the NRM speaker of the Parliament.

Anita Among a former banker, lecturer and lawyer was an ardent member of the opposition Forum for democratic change.
In 2007 when Bukedea district was created, she ran for the position of Bukedea District Woman legislator on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket but did not make it. She contested again on the FDC ticket in 2011 general election and lost the seat to NRM’s Rose Akol.
In 2016, Among contested once again this time as an Independent and won the Bukedea District Woman legislator seat in the 10th Parliament.
She got re-elected in 2021 to serve as Bukedea District Woman MP in the 11th Parliament unopposed after joining the NRM party in 2020 and denouncing the FDC party.
Ever since Anita Joined NRM, her fortunes have continued to sore first being elected as deputy speaker and now speaker of the 11th Parliament following the demise of former speaker Jacob Oulanya.

Mama Anita Among, the former FDC member and confidant of Dr. Kizza Besigye is now one of the most trusted right hand persons of NRM’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Dont you think if mama Anita of FDC met the present one who is the speaker of parliament under NRM there would be a big fight? Our verdict is a definite yes!.
7. Thomas Tayebwa the FDC youth league chairperson VS Thomas Tayebwa the deputy speaker.

Thomas Tayebwa another former FDC disciple and loyalist of Dr. Kizza Beisgye is presently one of the Key blue eyed boys of president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Tayebwa who is the former FDC youth league leader would later defect to NRM and was elected to the 10th Parliament as legislator for Ruhinda County North on ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket.

Having joined the NRM party, Tayebwa’s fortunes have since sored seeing him being appointed NRM chief whip in the 11th parliament before being elevated to the position of Deputy speaker of Parliament following the demise of the former speaker Jacob Oulanya.
Its kind of strange but true to see Tayebwa a former FDC diehard now in one of the top positions in NRM and its against such background that we believe if by any coincidence Thomas Tayebwa’s the FDC youth league chairman met Thomas Tayebwa the deputy speaker today, there would be a fierce fight and the grass would surely suffer.
8. Beatrice Anywar Mama Mabira Vs Beatrice Anywar the Minister of state for environment.

Another former ardent FDC party member Beatrice Atim Anywar has since moved on to join the ruling NRM Party under President Yoweri Museveni.
Beatrice Anywar shot to popularity in 2007 when the state then planned to give out part of Mabira forest to Sugar corporation of Uganda Limited (SCOUL) for sugar cane growing.
Anywar, then a fresh parliamentarian and the shadow minister for environment in the opposition forum for democratic change opposed this move and used her “thorax” to ensure that government abandoned this unpopular environmentally damaging move.
This achievement earned her the name mama Mabira , a name she is still known by to to date.

Mama Mabira later fell for the bait and joined NRM where she now serves as the state minister for environment.
If anybody knew mama Mabira and how much she detested the NRM and its leadership, its no surprise that if Beatrice Anywar mama Mabira met with Beatrice Anywar the NRM state minister for environment, the battle that would ensue would require anti riot police to quell down.
9. Betty Kamya of FDC and Uganda federal alliance VS Betty Kamya the former minister and now IGG.

Betty Olive Namusango Kamya Turwome is a former opposition cadre and a fierce Museveni regime critic. Betty Kamya was a member of the forum for democratic change (FDC) a party she served in various capacities including that of Member of Parliament representing Lubaga North Constituency from 2006 to 2010.
Kamya later disagreed with the FDC leadership and moved on to form her own party the Uganda federal alliance under which she contested for presidency in the year 2011 where she came fifth with 52,782 votes.
Kamya later swallowed the bait and joined the National resistance movement of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni someone whom she previously detested and vowed never to work with.
Upon joining NRM, Kamya has served in various portfolios. On 6 June 2016, she was named as the new Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority in the new Cabinet announced that day.
In a cabinet reshuffle on 14 December 2019, she was named the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, switching dockets with Betty Amongi, who took over at Kampala Capital City Authority.
Betty Kamya is presently the inspector general of government (IGG) an independent institution charged with fighting corruption and graft.

This is where the saying only rocks don’t meet but people meet comes into play. Who on this earth new that Betty Kamya the ferocious Museveni critic would later work with him?
Its against such background that we verily believe if Betty Kamya of FDC and UFA met with Betty Kamya the former minister and now IGG, it will be bloody. The grass will surely suffer.
10. Bassaja Mivule the regime critic VS Bassaja Mivule the the vocal regime supporter.

Bassaja Mivule previously a vocal regime critic made a U turn and joined the NRM party. The vocal talk show host previously knew nothing good at all about the NRM regime.
However, following a brief arrest stint, Bassaja Mivule returned converted to NRM and now speaks like he is more catholic than the pope.
Word has it that Bassaja Mivule’s conversion came with many incentives including cash (sign on fee), a car, and many privileges including having firearms which is a preserve of the forces.

Bassaja Mivule has since paraded his brand new ride registration number UBJ 603K for all and sundry to see.
The bottom line!.
We hope you enjoyed reading our list of 10 Ugandans who would fiercely fight themselves if they met.
This list is not entirely exhaustive because we know there are many more Ugandans out there who would fight themselves if they met but we chose to bring you our top ten.
Let us know of any other Ugandans whom you think should have made this list and why in the comments below.
To put your fears to bed, fear not because there is most likely not to be any fight at all as in all the 10 cases, the former are all dead and buried and the latter are all alive and kicking.
The dead cannot fight the living at any one time as they belong to two different worlds. Thank you for reading.
